Ruling

1. The Applicant was sentenced to thirty (30) years imprisonment on 20th May 2021 for the offence of gang rape.

2. The High Court on appeal reduced the sentence to fifteen (15) years to start running from the date he was sentenced by the trial court.

3. The Applicant has applied to this court seeking to have the period he was remanded before he was sentenced reduced from the computation of the 15 years imprisonment.

4. The Respondent does not oppose the said application and the same is allowed.

5. The sentence of 15 years will start running from January 2, 2020 when the Applicant was first arraigned in court.Orders to issue accordingly.
