Blade materials 1(2) For the purpose of clause (a) of the definition "long-bladed weapon" in subsection 1(1) of the Act, the following are prescribed blade materials: (a) any ceramic material; (b) any carbon fibre material; (c) fibreglass reinforced plastic or nylon. Blade requirements 1(3) For the purpose of clause (b) of the definition "long-bladed weapon" in subsection 1(1) of the Act, the blade of a long-bladed weapon must have one or both of the following: (a) a functional cutting edge on at least one side of the blade; (b) a sharpened tip or point that is capable of piercing or puncturing objects. Measuring blade length 1(4) The length of a blade is to be determined by measuring from the base of the blade where it emerges from the handle along the edge of the longest side of the blade to the tip of the blade. Exempt retailer 2 The Act does not apply to a retailer if the majority of products sold by the retailer are a range of kitchenware products. Exempt items 3 The Act does not apply to hedge trimmers, pruning shears and any type of saw. Required identification 4(1) A person seeking to purchase a long-bladed weapon must produce one of the following types of identification that belongs to the person to the retailer before the purchase is finalized: (a) a valid passport; (b) a valid driver's licence; (c) a valid identification card issued by Manitoba Public Insurance; (d) a valid Secure Certificate of Indian Status issued by the Government of Canada; (e) a valid Manitoba Métis Federation citizenship card; (f) a valid NEXUS card; (g) a valid Canadian Armed Forces identification card; (h) a valid possession and acquisition licence issued under the Firearms Act (Canada). No copying identification 4(2) A retailer must not copy the identification produced by a purchaser. Sales records 5 A retailer must record the sale information required under section 5 of the Act in chronological order based on the date of sale. Inventory records 6 A retailer must maintain the following records for each model of long-bladed weapon available for sale at the retailer's business premises: (a) the number of each model of long-bladed weapon at the premises on the coming into force of the Act; (b) the number of each model of long-bladed weapon received at the premises after the coming into force of the Act. Coming into force 7 This regulation comes into force on the same day that The Long-Bladed Weapon Control Act , S.M. 2024, c. 37, comes into force.
