CONSOLIDATED NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR REGULATION 1089/96 Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve Order under the Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act (O.C. 96-199) Under the authority of subsection 18(1) of the Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act and the Subordinate Legislation Revision and Consolidation Act , the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following Order. The Notice re: Provisional Ecological Reserve at Baccalieu Island, Newfoundland Regulation 10/91, and the Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve Order, 1995, Newfoundland Regulation 146/95, are repealed. Back to Top Schedule A All that piece or parcel of land and territorial waters known as the Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve situated in the province, bounded as follows: Beginning at a point east of Baccalieu Island and having map scaled co-ordinates 367,540 metres east and 5,335 metres north; Then following a left circular arc, having a radius of 1,250 metres and a map scaled centre 366,291 metres east and 5,335,220 metres north, an arc length of 3,474 metres, to a point having the calculated co-ordinates 365,145 metres east and 5,335,719 metres north; Then running south 11° 54' 9.6" west a distance of 4,000 metres to a point having map scaled co?ordinates 364,320 metres east and 5,331,805 metres north; Then following a right circular arc, having a radius of 3,000 metres and a map scaled centre 361,430 metres north and 5,331,000 metres north, an arc length of 2,303 metres, to a point having calculated co-ordinates 364,062 metres east and 5,329,560 metres north; Then following a left circular arc, having a radius of 1,200 metres and a map scaled centre 365,262 metres east and 5,329,560 metres north, an arc length of 1,621 metres, to a point having the calculated co-ordinates 365,000 metres east and 5,328,389 metres north; Then following a left circular arc, having a radius of 2,200 metres and a map scaled centre 365,400 metres east and 5,330,603 metres north, an arc length of 4,889 metres, to a point having the calculated co-ordinates 367,450 metres east and 5,331,530 metres north; Then following a right circular arc, having a radius of 1,650 metres and a map scaled centre 369,000 metres east and 5,332,095 metres north, an arc length of 1,325 metres, to a point having the calculated co-ordinates 367,506 metres east and 5,332,795 metres north; Then following a left circular arc, having a radius of 1,250 metres and a map scaled centre of 366,559 metres east and 5,333,610 metres north, an arc length of 1,555 metres, to a point having the calculated co-ordinates 367,632 metres east and 5,334,250 metres north; Then following a right circular arc, having a radius of 1,650 metres and a map scaled centre of 369,163 metres east and 5,334,860 metres north, an arc length of 927 metres, to the point of beginning. All co-ordinates, bearings and distance being referenced to the Universal Transverse Mercator Projection (Zone 22) and the North American Datum, 1927. 146/95 Sch A Back to Top Schedule B Outline of Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve Management Plan The Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve is established for the purpose of protecting internationally significant seabird breeding habitat. The reserve provides habitat for a diversity of breeding seabirds which includes the world's largest Leach's Storm Petrel colony. Management policies have been devised for the reserve to protect its significant ecological features. Resource development will not be permitted and natural succession will be allowed to continue with no habitat modifications to occur. Scientific research and educational use in the reserve will be encouraged. The administration of the management plan will be the responsibility of Parks and Natural Areas Division, Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. 146/95 Sch B ©Earl G. Tucker, Queen's Printer
