In this Act (a) "selection committee" means the Volunteer Service Medal Selection Committee established by section 4; and (b) "medal" means the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Service Medal that is described in the Schedule. 1996 cV-6.1 s2 Back to Top Medal awarded 3. The government of the province shall award a medal to each person (a) who is a Canadian citizen and is a current or was a long-term resident of the province; (b) who has provided a volunteer service to his or her community, without reward or gain, in an area that is beyond his or her normal duties or responsibility, for a minimum of 10 years; and (c) who has been recommended by the selection committee as a person considered deserving of the award. 1996 cV-6.1 s3 Back to Top Selection committee 4. (1) There is established a selection committee to be know as the Volunteer Service Medal Selection Committee. (2) The selection committee shall be comprised of 7 members appointed as follows: (a) the Lieutenant-Governor in Council shall appoint (i) a chairperson who shall serve in that capacity for a maximum of 3 years, and (ii) 3 additional members; and (b) 3 members shall be appointed by virtue of their office as follows: (i) the Clerk of the Executive Council, (ii) the Chief Justice of Newfoundland and Labrador, with the Chief Justice of the Trial Division acting as his or her alternate, and (iii) the President of the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and with a head of a community college as his or her alternate. 1996 cV-6.1 s4 ; 2001 cN-3.1 s2 Back to Top Duties of selection committee 5. The selection committee shall consider nominations for the medal and recommend to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council those persons considered suitable for such an award. 1996 cV-6.1 s5 Back to Top Deceased person 6.
