(2) In a letter dated 17 April 2003 to the President of the European Council, Mr Wim Duisenberg agreed to remain in function until the date on which his successor was appointed, HAVE DECIDED AS FOLLOWS: Article 1 Mr Jean-Claude TRICHET is hereby appointed President of the European Central Bank for a term of office of eight years as from 1 November 2003, Mr Wim Duisenberg's resignation having been accepted and taking effect on that day.
