Statute overview

About this statute

Chapter 1: General provisions. The Defence Forces must handle certain criminal investigations and related security/surveillance tasks, work with the police when needed, and hand the task over to the police if impartiality or seriousness requires it. Certain defense forces police duties are carried out by specified General Staff investigation department officials and defense forces military lawyers, if the officials have the required training. When carrying out police tasks under this Act, the principles set out in the Police Act (872/2011) must be followed. This section gives certain defence-investigation officials powers to investigate specified crimes and lets them decide on some technical interception/observation measures under the rules of the Criminal Investigation Act and Coercive Measures Act.
