Statute overview

About this statute

The Bank of Ghana has supervisory and regulatory authority over credit bureaus and related actors, and may issue rules, authorise officials, and establish credit reporting bodies. A person may not establish, operate, or propose to conduct credit bureau business unless licensed by the Bank. A licence application to operate or engage in credit bureau activities must be made in writing to the Bank, in the prescribed form, and accompanied by the appropriate administrative and processing fee. The Bank may set an application fee for applications and an initial licence fee payable on registration. The Bank must handle credit bureau licence applications by acknowledging receipt, deciding within three months, granting the licence if fees and conditions are met, and asking for rectification if there are errors or missing requirements.
