Statute overview

About this statute

The President may declare a situation that threatens peace, but only if satisfied that a relevant situation has arisen in an African state or territory, it is likely to prejudice peace and security, and the Cabinet approves. A declaration made under section 1 about a situation threatening peace must be communicated to the National Assembly immediately if it is sitting, or as soon as it meets if it is not sitting. The President may make regulations, with Cabinet approval, when a declared situation threatens peace.
