I, AUSTIN DEASY, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966) as adapted by the Agriculture and Fisheries (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister Order, 1977) ( S.I. No. 31 of 1977 ), hereby, for the prevention of the spreading of African swine fever, order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the African Swine Fever Order, 1986. 2. (1) Each of the Orders mentioned in paragraph (2) of this Article shall be construed and have effect as if the references therein to Foot and Mouth disease included references to African swine fever. (2) The Orders referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article are the Foot and Mouth Disease Order, 1956 ( S.I. No. 324 of 1956 ) Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 271 of 1967 ), the foot and mouth Disease Order, 1956 (Amendment) Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 297 of 1967 ) the foot and mouth Disease Order, 1956 (Amendment) (No. 2) Order, 1967 ( S.I. No. 310 of 1967 ) and the foot and mouth Disease Order, 1956 (Amendment) Order, 1968 ( S.I. No. 69 of 1968 GIVEN under my Official Seal this 6th day of August, 1986. AUSTIN DEASY, Minister for Agriculture. EXPLANATORY NOTE. The effect of this Order is to apply the same statutory measures for the control and eradication of African swine fever as are applied in the case of foot-and-mouth disease.
