Jersey Law 1/1960 POLICE FORCE (AMENDMENT) (JERSEY) LAW, 1960. ____________ A LAW to amend the Paid Police Force (Jersey) Law, 1951, sanctioned by Order of Her Majesty in Council of the 8th day of FEBRUARY, 1960. ____________ ( Registered on the 5 th day of March , 1960). ____________ STATES OF JERSEY. ____________ The 28th day of October, 1959. ____________ T HE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, have adopted the following Law : - ARTICLE 1 (1) In the definition of “paid police officer” in Article 1 of the Paid Police Force (Jersey) Law, 1951 1 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”) the word “paid” shall be deleted. (2) For the heading to Article 2 of the principal Law 2 there shall be substituted the heading “Constitution of States of Jersey Police Force”, and for paragraph (1) of the said Article 2 there shall be substituted the following paragraph – “(1) There shall be constituted a force of police to be called the States of Jersey Police Force (in this Law referred to as “the Force”) to be available for duty throughout the Island in accordance with the provisions of this Law.” (3) For the heading to Article 5 of the principal Law 3 there shall be substituted the heading “Police Officers”, and in the said Article 5 the word “paid”, wherever that word occurs, shall be deleted. (4) In Articles 6, 7, 9, 10 and 13 of the principal Law 4 the word “paid”, wherever that word occurs, shall be deleted. (5) For paragraph (1) of Article 16 of the principal Law 5 there shall be substituted the following paragraph – “(1) This Law may be cited as the Police Force (Jersey) Law, 1951.” ARTICLE 2 For paragraph (4) of Article 9 of the principal Law 6 there shall be substituted the following paragraph – “(4) In the event of the Chief Officer receiving information of an occurrence requiring immediate police action, he shall himself immediately deal with such occurrence or shall instruct one or more police officers to deal therewith and shall, without delay, inform the Constable or one of the Centeniers of the parish concerned of the action taken, and the Chief Officer or the police officer or officers so instructed, as the case may be, shall have the same powers and duties as if he or they had been placed at the disposal of the Honorary Police of the parish, and the provisions of Article 10 of this Law shall apply accordingly.” ARTICLE 3 This Law may be cited as the Police Force (Amendment) (Jersey) Law, 1960, and this Law and the principal Law may be cited together as the Police Force (Jersey) Laws, 1951 and 1960.
