(2) After Article 3(2) of the Magistrate’s Court (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Jersey) Law 1949 there shall be added the following paragraph – “(3) The States may, by Regulations, amend in paragraph (1) the sentencing powers of the Magistrate.”. (3) In Article 1 of the Loi (1853) établissant la cour pour la répression des moindres délits [2] , the words “, et dont la punition n’excédera pas £5 d’amende ou 8 jours d’emprisonnement” shall be deleted. 2 Standard scale of fines For the standard scale set out in the Schedule to the Criminal Justice (Standard Scale of Fines) (Jersey) Law 1993 [3] there shall be substituted the following standard scale – “The standard scale First column Second column Level on the scale Amount of fine 1 £200 2 £1,000 3 £10,000”. 3 Amendment of enactments and construction of Orders in Council (1) In an enactment described in the first column of Schedule 1, for the words in the second column opposite it, there shall be substituted the words in the third column. (2) The States may, by Regulations, amend in any enactment the amount or level of the fine that may be imposed for an offence. (3) The States may, by Regulations, amend in any enactment the fine that a centenier may inflict and levy summarily where a person charged with an offence under an enactment accepts the decision of the centenier. (4) The amendment of a subordinate enactment by or under this Law does not prevent or limit the further amendment of the enactment, in exercise of the power under which it is made. (5) In an Order in Council described in the first column of Schedule 2, the words in the second column opposite it shall be construed as if they were the words in column 3.
