Jersey Law 3/1966 MARRIAGE (PROHIBITED DEGREES OF RELATIONSHIP) (AMENDMENT) (JERSEY) LAW, 1966. ____________ A LAW to amend the Law regarding the marriage of persons with their relations by blood or by marriage, sanctioned by Order of Her Majesty in Council of the 31st day of JANUARY, 1966. ____________ ( Registered on the 18 th day of March , 1966). ____________ STATES OF JERSEY. ____________ The 26th day of October, 1965. ____________ T HE STATES , subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, have adopted the following Law: - ARTICLE 1 (1) In Article 2 of the Marriage (Prohibited Degrees of Relationship) (Jersey) Law, 1949, 1 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”) – ( a ) paragraphs (vi), (vii), (viii), (ix), (xvii), (xviii), (xxvii), (xxviii), (xxix) and (xxx) (persons with whom it shall not be lawful for a man to contract a marriage) are hereby repealed; ( b ) paragraphs (vi), (vii), (viii), (ix), (xvii), (xviii), (xxvii), (xxviii), (xxix) and (xxx) (persons with whom it shall not be lawful for a woman to contract a marriage) are hereby repealed. (2) Articles 3 and 5 of the principal Law 2 are hereby repealed. ARTICLE 2 Nothing in Article 1 of this Law shall validate a marriage – ( a ) contracted before the promulgation of this Law which, at that time, was prohibited; or ( b ) if either party to it is at the time of the marriage domiciled in a country outside the Island and under the law of that country there cannot be a valid marriage between the parties. ARTICLE 3 This Law may be cited as the Marriage (Prohibited Degrees of Relationship) (Amendment) (Jersey) Law, 1966, and this Law and the principal Law may be cited together as the Marriage (Prohibited Degrees of Relationship) (Jersey) Laws, 1949 and 1966.
