Jersey Law 5/1995 ADVOCATES (AMENDMENT No. 3) (JERSEY) LAW 1995 ____________ A LAW to amend further the Advocates (Jersey) Law 1968 sanctioned by Order of Her Majesty in Council of the 2nd day of NOVEMBER 1994 ____________ (Registered on the 20th day of January 1995) ____________ STATES OF JERSEY ____________ The 24th day of May 1994 ____________ T HE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, have adopted the following Law – ARTICLE 1 In Article 1 of the Advocates (Jersey) Law 1968, 1 as amended 2 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”) – (a) in paragraph (1) – (i) for sub-paragraph (a) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph – “(a) he is a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the European Union; and”, (ii) for clause (ii) of sub-paragraph (d) there shall be substituted the following clause – “(ii) he has passed the examinations set by the Law Society of England and Wales for enrolment as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales; and”, (iii) in sub-paragraph (dd) for the words “he has” there shall be substituted the words “either before or after satisfying one of the requirements referred to in sub-paragraph (e) of this paragraph, he has obtained”; (b) for sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (2) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph – “(a) he is a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the European Union; and”. ARTICLE 2 In Article 2 of the principal Law 3 – (a) in paragraph (2) after the words “Her Majesty’s Solicitor General” there shall be inserted the words “the Judicial Greffier”; (b) for paragraph (3) there shall be substituted the following paragraph – “(3) Each examination shall be conducted by a panel of five examiners (one of whom shall be the Deputy Bailiff, Her Majesty’s Attorney General, Her Majesty’s Solicitor General or the Judicial Greffier) appointed for that particular examination by the Board from amongst its members.”. ARTICLE 3 (1) This Law may be cited as the Advocates (Amendment No. 3) (Jersey) Law 1995. (2) This Law shall come into force on such day as the States may by Act appoint and different days may be appointed for different purposes or different provisions of this Law. C.M.
