Statute overview

About this statute

This preamble identifies the 30 June 1880 Luxembourg law on invention patents and lists its chapters. Patents are to be issued for new inventions that can be industrially exploited, subject to listed exceptions. An invention is not new if, at the time of the declaration under this law, it is already clearly described in public printed materials or is already publicly and notoriously used in the Grand Duchy or in a state of the German Customs Union. Without the patent holder’s authorisation, no one may industrially make, sell, offer for sale, or, in some cases, industrially apply the invention or use it.
