Statute overview

About this statute

This is the preamble to the law of 4 July 1968 introducing the uniform law on cheques into Luxembourg national law. The uniform law on cheques annexed to the 19 March 1931 Geneva Convention has force of law in Luxembourg. The cheque-name requirement applies only to instruments created at least six months after the law enters into force. A cheque must be drawn on a banker who has funds available to the drawer during the presentation period and under an agreement allowing payment by cheque; if other requirements are not met, the cheque’s validity is not affected, except for the requirement to draw on a banker. A cheque may be drawn on the drawer himself, except for a bearer cheque.
