Statute overview

About this statute

This text is the preamble and table of contents of a Luxembourg law on the organisation of notaries. Notaries are public officers who receive acts and contracts and help ensure their authenticity, date, safekeeping, and delivery of copies. Notaries are appointed by the Grand-Duke, can only be dismissed or moved in limited cases, and their functions end automatically at age 72. Notaries must act within their district of residence, may not notarize outside it, and may not refuse service there except in the cases stated in articles 21 and 24. Notaries are forbidden to routinely go to places in their district to receive deeds, to run a professional activity and see clients in their private home in certain cases, and to solicit business or offer commissions or other benefits for that purpose.
