Statute overview

About this statute

This Act may be cited by its stated short title. Certain claims against the Government must be heard by the competent court, including contract and tort claims, but some claims against servants of the Government are excluded unless a separate claim would exist against the servant or estate. Government lawsuits are to be brought by or against the Attorney General, unless another Act expressly says otherwise. You cannot start a suit against the Government or a public officer until 3 months after giving the required written notice. A suit against a public officer cannot be brought unless notice is delivered within the stated time limits.
