Statute overview

About this statute

This provision gives the Act its short title: the Waterworks Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including “Board,” “domestic purposes,” “occupier,” “premises,” and “waterworks.” Each water-area has a Water Board, and the Board has powers to levy and enforce rates and to carry out research or investigation on water supplies and sewerage sanitation. The Minister may, by Gazette notice, declare an area to be a water-area and may later change its boundaries or rename it. The Minister appoints the Board’s chair, specified officials, nine members, and may appoint alternates when needed.
