[1 February 1972] BE IT ENACTED by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong with the advice and consent of the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: Short title 1. This Act may be cited as the City of Kuala Lumpur Act 1971. Change of title 2. The Corporation established under the Municipal Ordinance of the Straits Settlements [S.S. Cap.133] and styled “the Municipality of the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur” and administered under the Federal Capital Act 1960 [Act 190], shall be styled “Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur” or “the City of Kuala Lumpur”. Saving of rights and duties of Commissioner and other persons 3. (1) The coming into force of this Act shall be without prejudice to the Commissioner of the Federal Capital or any other persons lawfully appointed or nominated, as the case may be, at the date of the coming into force of this Act holding office, who, from the said date shall, as Commissioner or other offices respectively, have and exercise all the rights, duties, powers and privileges formerly appertaining to any such office under the Federal Capital Act 1960 or any other written law and any by-laws made thereunder as if this Act had not been enacted. 059e.fm Page 6 Friday, March 31, 2006 3:37 PM 6 Laws of Malaysia ACT 59 (2) Nothing in this Act shall affect the validity or effect of any action, proceeding, conveyance, transfer, deed, transaction or act of any kind bona fide taken, entered into or done before the coming into force of this Act by or against or in the name or on behalf of the Municipality of the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur. Amendment to titles 4. Unless there is something repugnant in the subject or context, in every written law— (a) references to “the Municipality of the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur” shall be construed as references to “Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur” or “the City of Kuala Lumpur”; (b) references to “the Municipal Office” or to “the Office of the Commissioner” shall be construed as references to “Dewan Bandaraya” or “the City Hall”; (c) references to “Municipal” in relation to the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur shall be construed as references to “Bandaraya” or “City”; and (d) references to “the Commissioner of the Federal Capital of Kuala Lumpur” shall be construed as references to “Dato Bandar Kuala Lumpur” or “the Commissioner of the City of Kuala Lumpur”.
