Statute overview

About this statute

This article defines “representative organisations” as the most representative employers’ and workers’ organisations that enjoy the right of freedom of association. Countries that ratify the Convention must set up procedures for effective consultations between government, employer, and worker representatives. Representative organisations, where they exist, must freely choose the representatives of employers and workers for the procedures in this Convention, and employers and workers must be represented equally in consultation bodies. The competent authority must handle administrative support for the Convention’s procedures, and arrangements must be made to fund any necessary training of participants where representative organisations exist. The procedures under this Article are to be used for consultations.
