Statute overview

About this statute

This article says the regulation sets rules for electronic or automated fund transfers and protects users of payment instruments and facilities. This article defines key terms used in the regulation on electronic fund transfers. A receiving institution must execute a payment order immediately on receipt, unless the sender instructs otherwise or the account has insufficient funds. The beneficiary institution must credit the beneficiary’s account and notify the beneficiary, and the transfer should not take more than 72 hours after receipt by the receiving institution. A receiving institution may set cut-off times for payment orders on business days, and late orders may be treated as received at the next business day’s opening. Payment orders become final once received by the receiving institution, unless an agreement says otherwise.
