Statute overview

About this statute

This article establishes AFREXIMBANK and says the agreement’s capitalized terms have the meanings given in the Charter unless the agreement defines them. The Bank is established to promote trade and must carry out listed trade-finance and related support functions. It also has legal personality and may enjoy the immunities and privileges provided in the Agreement. The Bank has full legal personality and may enter contracts, own or dispose of property, and participate in court or administrative proceedings. Membership in the Bank is open to listed African and other eligible institutions, states, investors, and organizations; the General Meeting sets the eligibility conditions. The Bank must place its headquarters in an African country chosen by its shareholders, open branch offices where its board selects, may create representative offices, agencies, or subsidiaries, and has broad powers to do acts needed for its functions.
