Statute overview

About this statute

This article creates Rwanda’s national statistics institute, gives it legal personality and administrative and financial autonomy, and places it under supervision by the ministry responsible for statistics. The Institute’s headquarters is in Kigali, and it may be moved elsewhere in Rwanda by a Prime Minister’s Order. With Board approval, the Institute may also set up branches in other parts of the country. The Institute must carry out a list of national statistics responsibilities, including setting standards, running censuses and surveys, coordinating statistical work, and disseminating official statistical data. The Institute has two organs: the Board of Directors and the Management of the Institute. Article 5 sets out the Board of Directors: it has seven members including a chairperson, appointed by the Prime Minister on proposal of the responsible minister.
