Statute overview

About this statute

Certain traps and devices are banned near roads, paths, watercourses, and other communication routes, and some dangerous weapons or trigger wires are banned everywhere. The provision sets compensation rates for elephant tusks and rhinoceros horns, and requires certain carcass parts and live-captured animals to be made available to the nearest territorial authority or given to local indigenous people. It is permitted to remove or destroy the eggs of birds of prey, except the eggs of vultures, owls, barn owls, other night birds, and snake eagles. Territorial administrators are designated to issue the permits referred to in the penultimate paragraph of article 16 of the cited decree. A request for a certificate of legitimate export must include the applicant’s identity, the list of trophies, any dimensions or weight, and information proving lawful possession.
