Short title 1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Prohibited Substances (Tristan da Cunha) Ordinance, 1996 Basel Convention substances 2. (1) The import or export of substances that are, at the time of the import or export, hazardous wastes for the purposes of the Basel Convention is forbidden. (2) In subsection (1) the “Basel Convention” means the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal which entered into force on 5 May 1992, as from time to time amended by amendments applicable to Tristan da Cunha. Montreal Protocol substances 3. (1) The import or export of ozone depleting substances which parties to the Montreal Protocol have, at the time of import or export, agreed are prohibited imports from or exports to countries not parties to the Protocol is forbidden without the approval of the Governor. 1 Under section 10 of the Revised Edition of the Laws Ordinance, 1999 this text is authoritative and is the sole authentic edition in respect of the law contained in it as at 1 November 2017. 2 (2) In subsection (1) the “Montreal Protocol” means the Montreal Protocol on substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer ratified by the United Kingdom (which included ratification on behalf of St Helena and its Dependencies) on 16 December 1988, as from time to time amended by amendments applicable to Tristan da Cunha. ___________
