ACT To amend the Pharmacy Ac~ 1974, in order to extend the terms of office of the members of the Interim Pharmacy Council of South Africa; to amend the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions ACL 1974, in order to extend the terms of office of the members of the Interim National Medical and Dental CounciI of South Africa; to amend the Nursing ACG 1978, in order to extend the terms of office of the members of the South African Interim Nursing Council; and to provide for matters connected therewith. B E IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:- Amendruent of section 3 of Act 53 of 1974, as amended by section 4 of Act 6 of 1995

1. Section 3 of the Pharmacy Act, 1974, is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraph (e) of the following paragraph: 5 “(e) to make recommendations to the Minister on the constitution of a new council within a period not exceeding [24] 30 months calculated as from the date of commencement of the Pharmacy Am~ndment Act, 1995 (Act No. 6 of 1995); and” . Amendment of section 5 of Act 53 of 1974, as substituted by section 6 of Act 6 of 10 1995

2. Section 5 of the Pharmacy Act, 1974, is hereby amended by the substitution for subsection (6) of the following subsection: “(6) Subject to the provisions of section 7, the members of the council shall hold office as from the date contemplated in subsection (5) until the date of constitution 15 of a new council, but not exceeding [24] 30 months.”. — 4 >-0. Section 3 of the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act, 1974. is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraph @ of the following paragraph: 5 ‘“(J to make recommendations to the Minister on the constitution of a new council \vithin a period not exceeding [24] 30 months calculated as from the date of commencement of the Medical. De=tal and Supplementary Health Service Professions Amendment Act, 1995 (Act No. 18 of 1995);”. Amendment of section 5 of Act 56 of 1974, as substituted by section 5 of Act 18 of 10 1995

4. Section 5 of the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act, 1974. is hereby amended by the substitution for subsection (6) of the following subsection: ““(6) Subject to the provisions of section 6. the members of the council shall hold ]5 office as from the date contemplated in subsection (5) until the date of constitution of a new council, but not exceeding [24] 30 months.”. — Amendment of section 3 of Act 50 of 1978, as amended by section 4 of Act 5 of 1995

5. Section 3 of the Nursing Act, 1978, is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraph @ of the following paragraph: ~o “’@ to make recommendations to the Llinister on the constitution of a new council vithin a period not exceeding [two years] 30 months from the date of the commencement uf the Nursing Amendment Act, 1995 (Act No. 5 of 1995);”. 6. Section 5 of the Nursing Act, 1978, is hereby amended by the substitution for subsection (6) of the following subsection: ‘“(6) Subject to the provisions of section 6. the members of the council shall hold office as from the date contemplated in subsection (5) until the constitution of a new council but not exceeding a period of [two years] 30 months.”. 30 Short title and commencement

7. This Act shall be called the Extension of Terms of Office of Members of Certain Councils Act. 1997, and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 22 August 1997.
