Statute overview

About this statute

This section says the institutional statute must set the eligibility criteria for nomination and election to a council, and a person in the specified circumstances who is implicated in the independent assessor’s report cannot be reappointed. The institutional statute must set the criteria for being eligible and electable as a council member of a public higher education institution, and certain implicated former council members may not be reappointed. The Minister may, after consulting the Council on Higher Education, establish a national institute for higher education. If the Minister does so, the Minister must publish details of the institute, its board, and its scope in the Government Gazette. The Minister must prescribe the functions of each national institute for higher education. This amendment inserts a new rule requiring the majority of members under subsection (1) to have specific knowledge and experience.
