Statute overview

About this statute

This section defines key terms used in the Act. This provision establishes the Africa Institute of South Africa as a juristic person. The Institute’s objectives are to promote knowledge and understanding of African affairs, gather and share information on African affairs, give advice and support appropriate action, and promote awareness of Africa at grassroots level. The Council may appoint employees and may second them if they consent, but it must pay employee benefits from its own funds under a system approved by the Minister with the Minister of Finance’s concurrence.
