Statute overview

About this statute

This Act was assented to and published, and it amends the Correctional Services Act, 1959. This section amends the Correctional Services Act, 1959 by adding and updating several definitions. The Minister may make prison-management contracts with private entities, but the contract cannot give the contractor certain prison powers, cannot run longer than 25 years, and the contractor has several duties and approval requirements. This section inserts a new section after section 20A titled “Appointment of Controller”. The Commissioner must appoint a Controller for even contracted out prison.
