1. This Notice may be cited as the Tanzania Shipping Agencies (Ratified International Conventions and Regional Instruments) Notice, 2025. Interpretation

2. In this Notice, unless the context otherwise requires- “ratified and convention, regional convention international instrument” means treaty, a agreement, protocol or other legally binding international or regional instrument that has been ratified by the United Republic of Tanzania under Article 63 (3) (d) and (e) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1997. 1. International Conventions on maritime transport ratified by the United Republic of Tanzania are the following: (a) the Convention on the International Maritime Organization (IMO), 1948; (b) the International Convention on Load Lines (LL), 1966; (c) the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships (TONNAGE),1969; (d) the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (CLC),1969; (e) the International Convention Relating to Intervention on the High Seas in Cases of Oil Pollution Casualties (Intervention Convention); 1969; (f) the International Convention on the Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG), 1972; (g) the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes or Other Matter (London Convention), 1972; (h) the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974; (i) the International Convention on the Maritime Satellite Organization (IMSO Convention), 1976; the Convention on the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT), 1976; (j) (k) the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978; the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR), 1979; (l) (m) the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), 1982; (n) the International Convention for Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), 1973; (o) the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation (SUA Convention); 1988; (p) the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC), 1990; (q) the International Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006; 2 The Tanzania Shipping Agencies (Ratified International Conventions and Regional Instruments) Notice GN. 2. International Protocols ratified by the United Republic of Tanzania are the following: (a) the Protocol Relating to Intervention on the High Seas in Cases of Pollution by Substances Other Than Oil (Intervention Protocol), 1973; (b) the Protocol for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation Fixed Platforms Located on the Continental Shelf (SUA Protocol), 1988. (c) the Protocol to Amend the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (CLC), 1992; and (d) the Protocol on International Convention on the Establishment of an International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage (Fund Protocol), 1992. 3. International Annexes ratified by the United Republic of Tanzania are the following: (a) Annex I on the Prevention of Pollution by Oil, 1978; (b) Annex II on the Control of Pollution by Noxious Liquid Substance in Bulk, 1987; (c) Annex III on the Prevention of Pollution by Harmful Substance Carried at Sea in the Packaged Form, 1992; (d) Annex IV on the Prevention of Pollution by Sewage from Ships, 2003; and (e) Annex V on Preventing Pollution by Garbage from Ships, 1988.
