Statute overview

About this statute

States with opposite or adjacent coasts should delimit the Exclusive Economic Zone by agreement. If the States concerned cannot reach agreement within a reasonable time, they must use the procedures in Part XV. The States concerned must try to make practical provisional arrangements during the transition and must not jeopardize or hamper the final agreement. If the States concerned have an agreement in force, questions about delimiting the Exclusive Economic Zone must be decided under that agreement.
