Statute overview

About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Societies Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including society, member, Minister, Registrar, office-bearer, registered society, and unlawful society. An association may not operate as a society unless it is registered with the Registrar under this Act. An association that is registered under the Act but does not qualify as a society under section 2 is treated as de-registered after two months from when this section starts. The Minister may extend the time for an association to shift to its appropriate registry, if there is an application.
