About this statute
This section gives the Act its short title and lets the Minister prescribe rates of duty. The Minister may set customs duty rates by Gazette order, including rates based on value, weight, or another quantity measure. The Minister may, by Gazette order, तय? prescribe when customs duty is chargeable or not chargeable and make related provisions, including repayment arrangements. The prescribed duty rates must be charged on top of any other customs duty rates that are currently chargeable. The Minister may publish an order in the Gazette to remit all or part of a duty on imported goods if satisfied this is in the public interest.
