About this statute

This section provides definitions for terms used in the Act (for example: Authority, Board, cooperatives, currency point, dairy corporation, dairy products, farmer, functions, milk, milk product, Minister, traders). Creates the Dairy Development Authority as a corporate body with perpetual succession and a common seal, capable of suing and being sued; seal application and Board meeting procedures governed by Schedule 2. The Authority may, for and in connection with its objectives and functions under this Act, undertake a range of actions including soliciting and managing grants, promoting training, advising Government, borrowing money, imposing a cess on producers, managing property, entering contracts, charging for services and performing acts of a body corporate. The Authority must facilitate the dairy industry and pursue objectives to coordinate government policies, raise small-scale farmers' incomes, achieve self-sufficiency and export surpluses, increase productivity using cost-effective technology, establish harmonised markets and promote competition, regulate milk markets, and improve human resource capacity. The Authority must perform a range of duties to promote and regulate the dairy sector, including licensing, support, coordination, advice, regulation of trade, and related activities.
