About this statute

These Regulations may be cited as the Land (Annual Nominal Ground Rent) Regulations, 2011. Approves the annual nominal ground rent as determined by the respective district land boards and specified in Schedule 1. The Minister determines the annual nominal ground rent payable under section 31 of the Land Act for areas where the district land board has not determined the rent; the rent is specified in Schedule 2. Tenants by occupancy must pay an annual nominal ground rent to the registered owner at the rate in Schedule 1 or 2; owners who receive it must issue a written receipt; if a tenant cannot find the owner or the owner refuses, the tenant may apply to the Permanent Secretary (or a designated officer) to deposit the rent in a prescribed bank account. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry responsible for lands must, with the approval of the Accountant General and under the Public Finance Management Act, open a bank account with Bank of Uganda or another financial institution to receive annual nominal ground rent that cannot be delivered to a registered owner.
