Iowa Code § 101A.11 - Explosive materials exempt

This chapter shall not apply to the possession or use of twenty-five pounds or less of smokeless powder, or five pounds or less of black sporting powder, provided that: 1. Smokeless powder is intended for handloading or reloading of ammunition for small arms with bores equivalent to ten gauge or less. 2. Black sporting powder is intended for handloading or reloading ammunition for small arms with bores equivalent to ten gauge or less, loading blank ammunition, loading cap and ball revolvers, loading muzzle loading arms, or loading muzzle loading cannon. 3. All such powder is for private use and not for commercial resale, and in the case of black sporting powder or smokeless powder the sharing with or disposition to another person is permitted if otherwise lawful. 4. The storage, use, and handling of smokeless and black powder conforms to rules or ordinances of authorities having jurisdiction for fire prevention and suppression purposes in the area of such storage, use, and handling.
