Statute overview

About this statute

This is the opening part of a Kosovo law on forensic medicine. The law sets the procedure for forensic medical examinations under the Department of Forensic Medicine, and forensic experts must work objectively, independently, impartially, keep professional confidentiality, and follow non-discriminatory practices. Forensic medical examinations must be done by a certified forensic medical specialist. A forensic medicine resident may also do them under supervision. All medico-legal examinations are carried out at the premises of the Department of Forensic Medicine, unless a court orders otherwise in exceptional cases. A forensic autopsy may be carried out only on the order of a competent court, and the autopsy report must be signed by the specialist or expert panel members who performed it.
