Statute overview

About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title: the Pharmacy and Poisons Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including poison, drug, dispensing, the Board, and types of sellers of poisons. The Minister may appoint the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, the Board must appoint a registrar, and only registered pharmacists may carry on a pharmacist’s business or use pharmacist-like titles; unregistered people are also barred from preparing, mixing, dispensing, or supplying drugs or poison except as stated. A person may not run a pharmacist business unless the name and registration certificate of the person in control of the premises are clearly displayed there. Pharmacist business premises must be registered, and applications go to the Board in the prescribed form.
