Statute overview
About this statute
This section gives the Act its short title: the African Education Act. This section defines “Ministry” as the Ministry of Education and “Secretary” as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, unless the context requires otherwise. This section creates the Unified African Teaching Service, gives the Secretary power to specify certain persons for it with the Minister’s approval, lets some government-employed African teachers keep existing service terms if they want, and bars anyone from joining the Service from 1 November 1962. This section sets up the Teaching Service and the Teaching Service Commission, lets certain Unified African Teaching Service members apply to join, and gives the Secretary discretion to approve entry. The Minister may make regulations by statutory instrument for several listed education-administration purposes.
