Statute overview

About this statute

This provision gives the Act its short title: the Pools Act. This section defines “licensee” and “pool” for the Act, unless the context otherwise requires. The Minister may grant licences for pool-related activities, set licence conditions, require payment of fees and other money, and cancel a licence if conditions are breached. This section treats certain pools as unauthorised and makes it an offence to print, publish, send, or give advertisements, notices, or coupons about an unauthorised pool, with a fine of up to 1,500 penalty units. Anyone running a business that receives or negotiates pool bets must hold a valid licence as a pool promoter or pools agent.
