Chadiza District Council (Cattle Levy) By-laws, 1990

1. Theso By-laws may be cited as the Chndiza District Titlo Council (Cattle Levy} By-laws, 1990.

2. In theso By-laws, unless tho context otherwise requires-­ "area" means the area under the jurisdiction of the lnt.orpro­ tat1on Conncil; "cattle" me1,11s bulls, c:> .v3, hoifera, calvos, oxen, pigs, sheep and goats and any part thereof whother dead or alive; "check-point" means any placd within tho area designated by the Council for tho PJ.Jtn'3ut, of c:i,tLle levy; "collector " means any officer of the Council authorised to collect revenue for the Council ; "Council" means the Chadizn District Council; "movement permit" means a permit issued by a Veteri­ nary Officer under the provisions of tho Stock Diseases Regulations.

3. Every per3011 who slau�hteril c 1.Wo within the area to sell the meat thereof, or exports cattle from the area, shall pay to the Cotmcil a cattle levy, at the following rates: (a} in the case of a bull, cow, heifer, calf, ox or pig, a levy of fivo kwacba; (b) in the case of a. goat or heep, a lovy of one kwacha por beast. 5. (1) Cattle levy shall become payable as soon as the cattle has been weighed at the check-point. (2) Payment of cattle levy in respect of any weight of cattle shall be made at the check-point and shall be received by a collector who shall immediately issue an official receipt for each such payment. .

6. Any person· who. contravenes any of the provisions of these By-laws shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction- · · - · (a) in the case of a first offence, to a fine not.exceeding on e nundred kwacha or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months, or to both; (b) in the case of a second or subsequent offence, to a fine not exceeding two hundred kwacha or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months, or to both.
