Los Vigilantes deben supervisar la seguridad en sus zonas asignadas, impedir la entrada de obreros hasta comprobar que no hay peligro, vigilar explosivos y ventilación, mantener el orden de seguridad, denunciar infracciones y hacer cesar el trabajo si es necesario. Mine supervisory foremen are the chiefs of the mine watchers and are responsible for inspecting their daily service. Ongoing works must be inspected daily by a watchman, weekly at least by the facultative foreman, and monthly at least by the responsible director or engineer in charge. Open-cast mines must follow this regulation and keep required distances from buildings, roads, springs, public easements, and fortified points. In open-pit quarries, the slopes and overburden must be cut following the natural slope of the material, unless the ground is firm enough to allow a steeper cut; the Mining Authority may authorize the last two extraction methods and set the maximum quarry slope in each case.
